Jallianwala Bagh

Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden in Amritsar famous for one of the most tragic yet landmark events in the history of India. This is where the Amritsar Massacre of 1919 took place. The British Army soldiers upon receiving orders from General Dyer opened fire on a huge, unarmed gathering of men, women and children on April 13, 1919. There is a well inside Jallianwala Bagh into which many people including children jumped to save themselves from the firing. The garden also houses a memorial built in honour of the massacre victims. The portion of the wall with bullet marks along with the well is preserved as a memorial.

Wagah Border

The only road border crossing between India and Pakistan, Wagah lies between Amritsar in India and Lahore in Pakistan. It is home to the Radcliffe Line, which is the demarcation between India and Pakistan and was drawn during the partition of India in 1947. The illustrious lowering of the flags ceremony takes place here at the Wagah Border; a daily military practice followed by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers, since 1959. Durgiana Temple

The Durgiana Temple, also known as Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Durga Tirath and Sitla Mandir, is a premier temple situated in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. Though a Hindu temple, its architecture is similar to the Golden Temple. This temple derives its name from the Goddess Durga, the chief Goddess deified and worshipped here. Idols of Goddess Laksmi (goddess of wealth) and Vishnu (the protector of the world) are also deified here and worshipped. Partition Museum

The Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust (TAACHT) has recently, in October 2016, set up the world’s first Partition Museum, at Town Hall, Amritsar. The Museum, open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., receives large numbers of visitors daily. The Museum is part of the newly inaugurated Heritage Street at Amritsar, which starts at the Golden Temple and ends at the Town Hall. The Partition Museum was inaugurated (with the curtain raiser exhibition) on October 24, 2016, by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Badal. It was then visited by the Hon’ble Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley, along with the Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal, and Hon’ble Union Ministers, including Ms. Harsimrat Kaur Badal on November 1, 2016, which is also Punjab Day.

Mata Lal Devi Temple

Hindu temple dedicated to Lal Devi with an unusually elaborate interior & colorful, ornate shrines. Located in the pious city of Amritsar, Mata Lal Devi Temple is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage that is considered to be full of miraculous powers. Dedicated to a 20th century female saint named Lal Devi, it is regarded as a miniature of the popular Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu because of its similar structure. Mata Lal Devi Temple is not much of an architectural beauty from its structure but it is the sheen and beauty of the interiors that has entitled the temple with name of “Sheesh Mahal”.

Gobind Garh Fort

Gobindgarh Fort is a historic fort located in the center of the city of Amritsar in the Indian state of Punjab. The Fort was earlier occupied by the army but is now open to the public from 10 February 2017.Today the fort is being developed as a unique live museum, as a repository of Punjab’s history. It was originally built by Gujjar Singh Bhangi, the local chieftain in the 18th century Gobindgarh was conquered and enhanced in the early 19th century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh who renamed it after the 10th Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh. The fort had five cannons which included the famous two ‘Zamzama' cannons, also called ‘Bhangiyon-de-tope'.

War Heroes Memorial Museum

First of its kind in India, the Punjab State War Heroes' Memorial and Museum at Amritsar is now fully operational and draws large number of visitors daily. Built at the cost of Rs 130 crore (20 million USD), the memorial-museum was inaugurated in October 2016, by the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal. Some works related to interior furnishing of exhibit galleries which were pending at that time have now been completed. The Punjab State War Heroes' Memorial and Museum is located on a plot of about three hectares abutting Amritsar - Attari Road on the outskirts of the holy city of Amritsar.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama is a permanent visual documentation of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and it has been conceptualized and set up by National Council of Science Museums, an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The sprawling 4.5 acres of land in the historic Rambagh Heritage Garden at the heart of the holy city of Amritsar has been made available for developing the panorama by the Government of Punjab, whereas the entire cost of setting up of the panorama has been borne by the Government of India. An aesthetically designed tall cylindrical building surrounded with green garden near Summer Palace of Maharaja in the Rambagh Heritage Garden is now a landmark in the city of Amritsar.
